Frequently Asked Questions about BedWood® Truck Beds
What is the best wood to use for an old truck bed?
We have found that a Tight Grain Structured wood is a great option for a Wood Truck Bed. We offer a wide variety of options that have been tested in truck builds and have had great results.
Can you spray Truck Bed Liner on wood?
You can, but why hide a good-looking truck bed? We offer a great solution to seal your boards from damage. Our HydroSatin™ and HydroShine™ Finishes help to protect your wood from Mold, Fungi, and Pest while providing UV protection for years to come.
What kind of Plywood do you use for a Truck Bed?
Short answer, we don’t. Plywood is a weak product that does not hold up to abuse and use as a Truck Bed option. We use 3/4” thick, real Hard Wood options for our Truck Beds. Our Wood has been in vehicles for years whereas Plywood may only last a year or two.
What do you seal a Wood Truck Bed with?
We use an In-House Proprietary Blend Water Based solution that soaks into your Wood Bed to ensure your boards are sealed from all elements that could harm or destroy your Wood Bed. We offer two variations of our finishes. Our HydroSatin™ is a Matte Clear Finish, and our HydroShine™ is a Gloss Clear Finish. Both provide your kit with Environmental Protections.
What is the strongest wood for a Wood Bed option?
We use the Janka Hardness Chart for our Hardness Rating. Our Hardest Domestic option would be Hickory wood. If you desire a more Exotic look, the Brazilian Cherry wood is the hardest of all our options.
What is the Lowest Cost wood option to build a Truck Bed with?
Cheap is not always the best. If you are looking to keep your cost the lowest, you sacrifice the quality of your wood. If that has not changed your mind, Pine would be the lowest cost for a Truck Bed option, but who wants a plain Pine Bed? Now if you want a better Wood option, while keeping your cost low, we recommend either Ash or Hickory for your Wood Bed. The price is low while not compromising your quality of wood.
What is the best Spray On bed Sealant for Wood Beds?
We have tried a ton of different options for Wood Beds. As the Leading supplier of Wood Beds, we have perfected our own Wood Bed Sealant. Our Proprietary Water Based Blend is designed to soak into the board to the very center and seal the boards from the inside out. Our two options both provide all the protections for your environment. Our Finish Provides UV Protection, and Adhesion Promoters while providing protection from Mold, Fungi, and Pests that would destroy your wood. Our HydroSatin™ or Matte Clear Finish and our HydroShine™ or Gloss Clear Finish will make your Wood Bed look great and steal the show on your restoration truck.
Can Iron Armor Truck Bed Coating be Used on Wood Truck Beds?
Yes, but we do not recommend it. After trying everything we could get our hands on to test protection against the Environmental Hazards to your wood, we decided to make our own with all of the protection you want with none of the drawbacks. Our Finish Provides UV Protection, and Adhesion Promoters while providing protection from Mold, Fungi, and Pest that would destroy your wood. Our HydroSatin™ or Matte Clear Finish and our HydroShine™ or Gloss Clear Finish will make your Wood Bed look great and steal the show on your restoration truck.
